about me

Celebrating the strength, joy and beauty of the human form, most of my work starts with life sketches with a model, in a free, expressive, raw style.

Although I specialise in Celebration Portrait Commissions and the specific process of Empowerment Portrait Commissions, I also love to paint from images I create in life drawing sessions with professional life models. These sketched images are drawn and redrawn until I have a more stylised human form which I create in paint on canvas. These are often in flat, bold colour, often contrasted with areas of thick impasto layers for texture and contrast.

The portrait commissions are painted in this same process too, but in a much more personal collaboration to reflect particular characteristics.

I'm really not precious about the sketches I create in life drawing sessions with the wonderful life models I get to work with, and love to sell them off (so I don't drown in them) at affordable prices...check out the Sketches section.

I love to paint commission works for people celebrating, or reclaiming their bodies, or looking to reconnect with their inner joy and strength. This is the most rewarding work, and work that I love to offer to any scale or budget. Check out my Commission Portraits page for more details or message me. I am committed to creating 100 commission portraits over the next 5 years!

With very little formal art training, I am a largely self-taught artist, inspired by my textile artist mother. I have played at the edges of my art most of my life, feeling stuck and uncertain. Only now, in my 50's, after a lot of encouragement from friends, really testing and discovering my capabilities, educating myself, finding great tutors, attending lots of training courses and taking active steps to live the life I have always dreamt of!

I firmly believe that art makes a home. It creates a mood, lifts the spirits and inspires people, on a daily basis and encourage us to do whatever we can to save our beautiful blue planet from pollution and climate change.

I aim to create uplifting, stylish art for your home and hope you find it expressive and emotive.

In my spare time I like to dance. I am slowly improving at yoga. I love coffee, but don't like cake!

I live in the North Yorkshire village of West Tanfield, between Ripon and Masham. You can come browse my artwork in my home gallery, by arrangement. I'll even make you a cuppa!

Please contact me on contact@katemooresartist.com to arrange this or to discuss a commission.
